I grew up on a remote ranch in Montana. The Big Sky Country instilled a love for its endless horizon as well as for the old barns and granaries where I spent much of my time.
Vernacular and historic architecture along with landscape are the vehicles I use to convey isolation and otherness. Representational yet surreal, my paintings inhabit a twilight zone between reality and imagination. Abstracting the images to various degrees further incorporates a sense of mystery allowing them to read as symbolic structures and places--as portals or refuges.
